Beyond the Books

All of his life Earl Sewell has had two passions, the performing arts and athletics. During his teen years he performed in dance shows during the fall semesters and ran track and field during the spring. By his twenties he discovered endurance sports and bicycled half way across the United States. At the age of thirty, Sewell completed his first marathon and would go on to complete two more. Sewell decided to give triathlons a try and competed in several local competitions. By the time Sewell reached his mid-thirties his publishing career blossomed which demanded all of his effort and energy. As a result, by age forty, he had fallen woefully out shape. His practitioner recommended he begin taking prescription drugs for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and gout. Sewell, could not accept, nor did he want to hear that he’d turned into an out of shape middle-aged man.

He understood that he had to find balance between his two passions and immediately made the commitment to get back into shape and never take his health for granted again.
